Too bad, but there is a way around this issue.  TX allows non-residents to get a CHL.  I came here on a house hunting trip.  Took the CHL class, got finger printed, and mailed everything in when I got home in MO.  Two months later I arrived in TX, with my non-resident CHL and I was legal.  Got my TX drivers license and mailed in 12.50 for new resident CHL card.  No one even questioned me.  I did not wait 6 months, did not stop carrying and was always legal.

I went two days ago and bought a gun, not my first, asked for my Texas Driver License.  I showed my Out of State CHL to make it an easy purchase.  The store representative behind the gun counter stated that I would still need to go through a background investigation since my CHL wasn't a Texas CHL and demanded my Texas Driver License.  I waited about two hours in the store for the final process.  I understand the reciprocity agreement between State Attorney's offices recognizes each others Licenses and so the process involves federal background checks done no matter which reciprocal state.  Anyway, according to the gun sales representative, my federal background check from Florida to get my CHL wasn't good enough in Texas and needed another federal background check for this particular sales representative.  I'm not up on all this magic dust requirement to buy a gun.  I'm a born and raised Texan; I'm retired and a good citizen, but lived in Florida for two years and came back to our great state.  My "Concealed Weapon or Firearm License" (That's what Florida calls it) expires 2019.  I'm pretty much a cooperate and graduate person, so I was walked and escorted from the gun counter in the rear to the front cash register by an employee after passing the background check, paid for my gun and left.
