Abusive partner and chl

I'm pretty sure I already know the answer, but wanted to ask to be sure. Is there any way for a person to expedite obtaining a chl if they are in an abusive relationship? This person has already filed for divorce and gotten a restraining order, but we all know how much good those do.

Asbandr,

Unfortunately not. However, DPS is running pretty quickly on CHLs right now. Our most recent reports have persons receiving their CHLs in the mail 3-4 weeks after they submit their fingerprints and complete the application. Something to keep in mind-- if there is an agreed mutual injunction (sometimes referred to as a standard mutual injunction) neither party is allowed to possess any firearms while the order is in place. It does not say this specifically in the injunction, but the effect of the language used in these documents is to make it a federal crime to possess firearms while in place. Have your friend check with her divorce lawyer on this issue.
