Carry in Gun Shows
« on: June 21, 2014, 06:06:52 PM »
I'm under the impression that it is not legal for a Texas CHL Holder to carry inside a gun show. Is this correct or are CHL Holders allowed to carry loaded firearms inside the show?

voodooone01,

There is no law stating that you cannot carry inside of a gun show. If there is no 30.06 sign, or you are not verbally notified of a no firearms policy, then you are perfectly legal to carry.

Thanks for the question.

Dont know if this helps but in Florida you need to check your firearm at the door. A few months ago I brought my firearm at the show and there was a guy at the door saying "all firearms need to be checked". They will check to see that your firearm is unloaded, put a tie on it and give the firearm back to you. Vendors want you to bring in your firearm so you can get holsters, sites, etc custom fit to your gun. Being a lefty and my 380 has a laser, I needed a holster to be custom fit for me. No generic holster satisfied my needs...

Hope that helps...

It is my understanding that if the gun show is being held on City Property, then 30.06 sign is invalid...TLS?

BjornF16,

Government buildings cannot lawfully post 30.06 signs.

Thank you for your question.

There was a proposed law that had fines for municipalities that passed 'illegal' gun restrictions or posted 30.06 signs.  It did NOT pass.
There is NO law against cities posting 30.06 signs.  However, these signs are unenforceable, not illegal.
