transfer gun in GA

Is it legal for a person to sell his Legal Gun to an individual in the state of GA. I am not talking about a straw purchase but a transaction between law abiding citizens.

pugbro01,

Private sales between individuals living in Georgia are fine without a background check, as long as the seller doesn’t have any reason to believe the buyer is prohibited from receiving or possessing it.

Generally, federal law prohibits interstate sale of firearms. If the person buying the gun does not live in the same state as the person selling it, the seller must have an FFL, or ship the gun to an FFL in the buyer’s home state. The buyer will then need to complete an ATF Form 4473 and a NICS background check. See the ATF’s webpage for more information on this -  http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/unlicensed-persons.html.
