Are there any legal ramifications of carrying with the mechanical safety off?

Whal,

This is an interesting question. Technically speaking, there is nothing in the Texas Penal Code that criminalizes the carrying of your handgun with the mechanical safety off. You may carry in this way without fear of violating the law.

However, this does not necessarily mean that there are no possible legal ramifications. It is always possible that someone could bring a civil suit claiming negligent care and handling of a firearm if there was a situation involving something like an accidental discharge.

On an accidental discharge, because you willingly disregarded the firearms manufacturers guidelines, Texas Penal Code 19.05 Criminally Negligent Homicide comes to mind.  Training is key.
