Texas open Carry and Concelaed Permit
« on: February 09, 2017, 07:14:35 AM »
I live in Texas and we now have an open carry law. My questions is I also have a concealed carry license that needs renewal but I am wondering if I still need the conceled permit since laws have changed. What benefit is concealed carry permit if the laws of texas now allow for open carry?

Clincoln, IANAL, however in Texas the "CHL" (Concealed Handgun License), is now an "LTC" (License to Carry). You must still have the license in order to carry - either open or concealed. It's just the one license, and when you renew your current license you will automatically be issued the LTC.

There is no permitless carry or constitutional carry in Texas (yet).

Clincoln777,

As noted above, Texas does not have constitutional carry at this time. In order to carry either openly or concealed on your person outside of your home or vehicle, you must possess a recognized license to carry. As of Jan. 1, 2016 all concealed handgun licenses were converted to a “license to carry.” When you renew your license, this will be denoted on the new card.
