Mossberg Shockwave..legal?
« on: May 21, 2017, 02:39:45 PM »
Hello, I see the Mossberg Shockwave is a non NFA, non AOW federally. Im not sure on the law in Texas. Do you need a ATF tax stamp to register this weapon? It appears to not be a shoulder fired shotgun...hence the birdhead pistol grip.
Any clarification os appreciated!
  Thank you!

Cragsrock17!,

This is a great question and one that has come up quite a bit since Mossberg released the Shockwave. We have a detailed article dealing with this firearm on the US Law Shield website.

The article discusses how the Shockwave could potentially be unlawful to own under Texas law without a tax stamp. However, there is a current bill in the Texas legislature that could fix this problem. House Bill 1819 has language that would make the Shockwave legal to own in Texas. At this point, the bill has been passed by both the House and the Senate and we are waiting to see if the Governor will sign the bill. If he does, the law will go into effect in September.
