Liquor Stores in Oklahoma
« on: March 21, 2018, 10:51:35 AM »
I just watched Mr. Robles' video on the home page regarding prohibition of carry in places where alcohol is "sold" in Oklahoma.  He mentioned liquor stores are included in that group.  My carry class some years ago taught that the prohibition is where alcohol "consumed" and alcohol is the primary business (ie. bars, clubs, etc.).  Please confirm that liquor stores, where alcohol is not consumed, are prohibited to carry in Oklahoma.  Thank You!

egris52788,

We are of the legal opinion that the definition of the word "consume", found in section 1272.1, is not limited to eating or drinking, but also includes buying alcoholic beverages at an establishment who's primary purpose is the sale of alcoholic beverages. A violation of section 1271.1 is a felony punishable by imprisonment and fine. A liquor store is a place who's primary purpose is the sale of alcoholic beverages and a zealous prosecutor could charge you with a crime based on a broad definition of “consume.” Misunderstanding Section 1271.1 can result in a felony conviction so we recommend erring on the side of caution.
