There are some things that stick out in this story. Number one is that the ccw showed his cards and it cost him. Concealed means concealed. I'm sure open carry folks will have some things to say which is fine.
The second thing is an over reliance on the gun protecting him. He did next to nothing to defend himself in hand to hand combat. In cqc you have to fight to earn the weapon.
Get training, practice and be smart.

MIO I have a different take on this story.  The report says that Foster noticed the gun as Daniels was getting out of his vehicle.  That suggest to me that the exposure of the weapon was accidental and not deliberate.  I can't speak for Florida law, but in Texas that is not a crime.  Secondly, Foster assumed that Daniels was a threat to the people in the store.  Third, rather than notify the authorities like a reasonable person would have done, Foster took it upon himself to attack Daniels and wrestle him to the floor.  I think the fact that the police arrested Foster and not Daniels shows clearly who was in the wrong here.  This is a case of very poor judgement on Foster's part - and it cost him.

Yabu I do somewhat agree with you. An accidental showing, while maybe not illegal,is still showing your cards though and the reason he was assaulted. He is lucky it wasn't a bad guy who wanted just to steal his gun because he had no plan "B".
Yes Foster is an idiot with a hero complex and deserves to go to jail. He is lucky the ccw wasn't in a mindset with proper training or he would not be alive to go to jail.
My points have nothing to do with legality but in staying alive which is why we carry.
My main point is that the gun isn't always the answer and can even become the problem without proper training and planning. I'd like everyone reading this ask yourself if that was you that got jumped can you defend yourself? Your gun?
If the answer is anything but one that includes training or experience then you should get some.

I think it would be very embarrassing & dangerous also because of a particularly obvious common sense: WHAT IF THE GUY YOU SEE IS AN OFF DUTY / UNDERCOVER COP?!  This fool could've been potentially shot for assaulting an officer of the law, had the dude been as I suggested!
