Citzens Arrest
« on: April 24, 2019, 06:41:09 PM »
Something in the news the other day made me wonder about citizens arrest and how it's used/done.

The report is about some people stopping illegal activities on the New Mexico border.
Is Citizens arrest not an option in this situation?

It's my understanding if I see a crime I can impose citizens arrest and detain them until law enforcement arrives. After that it's pretty much an unknown.
Is there a procedure for citizens arrest? What can I do if the offender doesn't stop? Can I stop them in some way?
How lawful is citizens arrest?
Is it a procedure best left alone? Or is it another "tool" at our disposal?

Thank You for your time,
   Mr. Jody Nicks

This is altogether confusing but somewhat informative.

Might answer the question.

So what is the difference between "Citizens arrest" and simply detaining a person until authorities arrive?
I think that is the part that confuses me the most.

Thank You
